Here's a more cheerful sort of thought. I only have... four active characters? One of those barely active at all... but anyone I have played, such as Moody, is also valid.

Give me a current character of mine and I will list for you their:

01.) Full name?
02.) Best friend?
03.) Sexuality?
04.) Favorite color?
05.) Relationship status?
06.) Ideal mate?
07.) Turn-ons?
08.) Last sexual experience?
09.) Favorite food?
10.) Crushes?
11.) Favorite music?
12.) Biggest fear?
13.) Biggest fantasy?
14.) Quirks in bed?
15.) Bad habits?
16.) Biggest regret?
17.) Best kept secrets?
18.) Last thought?
19.) Worst sexual/romantic experience?
20.) Biggest insecurity?

I suspect most of the people who read this journal read Rey's as well, and are therefore somewhat caught up on the household goings-on. Rey has been jobless for some time, Bridgie was struggling with medication changes, and got that sorted out only to lose her job as well. Since I haven't been working myself, we no longer have any steady, reliable source of income. It's an ugly situation, and one echoed loudly across the country, I suppose. I am confident that we will get by, between unemployment and tax returns and the inevitability that jobhunting will pay off, sooner or later.
I should be doing more to help.

March is always an ugly month in my own book, the time of year when I find myself truly wanting a drink again. There's an anniversary to be observed, the knotted tangles of blood relations to be prodded at, and the ever-distressing holiday wherein I am reminded that alcoholism and being Irish go hand in hand in many people's minds. Bridgie's birthday at the beginning of the month was unfortunately lackluster due to all that's been going on, and I feel badly for that.

Amidst the chaos I shall continue to practice escapism through roleplay. I'm enjoying plyaing The Shadow ([livejournal.com profile] evillurks), although the plot has stalled somewhat, again due to the chaos of our lives. I shall try to revive it.

I was reminded I've been tagged on a meme, some time back last month. I believe I'm meant to tag others, but I shan't. Anyone who wishes to do the meme may, and you're allowed to alter any questions you'd like.

You do not feel nervous in social situations, and have a good impression of what others think of you, however you feel enraged when things do not go your way. You are sensitive about being treated fairly and feel resentful and bitter if you think you are being cheated. You are not prone to spells of energetic high spirits. You tend not to express your emotions openly and are sometimes not even aware of your own feelings. How interesting. I wouldn't say that it's spot on, but it's a reasonably fair assessment. It claims that I'm angry when things don't go my way, which I don't believe is a habit of mine... I do have a temper, and I've been known to lose it, but not for that reason.

Check my fandoms, my favorite characters, the pairings I like the most, my kinks, my fictional crushes, anything. Now, in a friendly and possibly teasing way, point out the obvious and not so obvious trends or fetishes you see in my tastes. Maybe I'm nuts for all vampire stories, or have a thing for men in glasses, or I'm fond of kick-ass women, or scary-ass geeks. Let's point out all of those you've noticed I tend to squee about during our friendship.

Hm. Except that I do not 'squee'.

Wide awake.

March is blessedly over, and April 1st passed without anyone pulling distressing pranks.
The computer is acting rather poorly, but perhaps it has some idea what time it is, and means to convince me to sign off and try sleep again.
It vexes me that the term 'pimp' has become a common verb in modern speech.

That last does not surprise me, but likely it's a hint that I should go lie down again. I wish you all a very good Saturday morning, and hope that yours starts much later than mine has.

I am up late again, unable to sleep. I apologize for my recent apathy in posting, but I do respond to comments left in my journal, however belatedly.
In answer to [livejournal.com profile] ursa_mater, my favourite author would have to be Rudyard Kipling, and there is nothing of his I do not enjoy reading. From the passionate world of the Jungle Books to simple essays on his days in journalism, everything he has written has a certain feel to me of coming home. This has nothing to do with India, where I have never been, but with a sort of connection I feel to his writing style and perspective of the world. My collection of his works is, at the moment, incomplete, but I have also begun to run into duplication of a number of stories from various collections of his writing. I am also in mourning at present for a lost copy of Stalky & Co., a paperback of advanced age with a cover that had nearly come off.
Christopher Morley is an author I dabbled in reading before, and have recently rediscovered with a passion. He lays open the thoughts and feelings of the perspective character in his longer works, so that one feels they relate to them even if you have nothing in common with their personality. There’s a very timeless quality to his writing, and he very successfully throws in delightful surprises of plot, even absurdly fantastic twists that make me chuckle out loud. I don’t feel the fondness of familiarity with his works that I do with Kipling’s, but I’m rapidly collecting everything I can and have yet to find any writings of his that disappoint me.
I suppose where it’s the people in Morley’s writing that draw me, it’s the environments in Kipling’s. In every work of Kipling, even the short stories, I have a sense of being drawn into a place and time, so that the world he describes is laid out before me. He takes pains to add explanatory details so that one feels one belongs to the world he has presented. This utter immersion in the text is, to my mind, the ultimate success of a work of writing.
My own style is influenced by too many things to closely resemble either author, although I suspect that I would come closer to Morley than Kipling in many respects. I am fond of environmental detail but I often find myself stripping it down for the sheer sake of readability, a sign that I am not nearly as successful in it as I would like. Like so many practicing in any artistic field, I have made attempts at copying various authors stylistically in different pieces of my own. I’m sorry to say I have not written much or well in some time, and am trying lethargically to get myself back into the habit.

I suppose that I should try the bed again, or perhaps return to the latest work of Morley that I obtained only today. Writing done at a late hour, while sometimes seeming perfectly brilliant by the feverish lamplight, tends to look lackluster in the light of day.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don’t blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don’t blog about, but you’d like to hear about, and I’ll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on tv, favorite type of underwear, stories I'm working on, travel, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

I do not guarantee it will be an open post, but I believe nearly everyone who reads this journal is on the friendslist in any case.
There are other things I could be posting about, such as the current state of insomnia or the misery of March, but at the moment I lack the energy. This is never a good month for me, and this year seems particularly bad. I'm willing to discuss it with anyone who wants to know why, but I don't feel up to rambling about it for my own sake.

Because it was requested that I do this:
Life events meme )

Bloody hells that was difficult. I fear that the older one is, the more of the minor incidents of life one forgets. On the other hand there are a large number of items listed I have not done. Likewise, I can certainly come up with a number of things not listed at all which I would consider worthy of note, or items which could be altered to suit.

1) Name/username.
2) Left or right handed?
3) Favourite letters to write.
4) Least favourite characters to write.
5) Write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
6) Tag 5 people.

Not my best, scanned badly, and I refuse to tag.

I'm afraid I will not be doing the character meme, entertaining as it may be, due to the fact that I have only ever had four characters online, five or six at a stretch. I am enjoying reading answers, however.

Checking in

Jan. 2nd, 2008 04:03 pm
shadowtricker: (walk in the rain)
We're back home and recovering, and I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season, in whatever way you might enjoy it. I recieved an enormous collection of ink pads, a folder to organize my altered book/scrapbooking supplies in, a box of my favourite tea (PG tips), and a number of other wonderful small things. We do stockings in this household, and I do believe I single-handedly recieved more sweets than anyone else. I'm not certain what sort of hint that might be, since I've managed to put on a good ten pounds or more in the past few years. Our Christmas was somewhat disjointed and came in multiples due to the technical impracticality of carrying gifts back and forth in the luggage, but the west coast was lovely. Rey's home town always reminds me just a bit of England, with its rocky shore and frequent light rain.
New Year's Eve was quiet and peaceful, spent with movies and a brief tuning in to see the Time's Square ball drop.
Today is incredibly windy, and I took a long walk in it with the music player, singing at the top of my lungs into the cold. Simply wonderful.
I'm at work still on a belated Christmas gift, my first altered book really. I will scan the pages and cover and make a post once it's completed, especially as it's meant to be an in-character gift from Thorn to Courtney.

A quiz from Donya's journal, because it looked interesting. I ought to take up the weekly quiz habit.

1. When did you "lose your innocence"?
I'm unsure if this is intended to mean one's virginity, or the more ethereal concept. It was a very long time ago in either case, when I was too immature to value either.

2. Would you say you have an accent?
I do, although I would not say nearly so extreme a one as those around me might. I'm fairly close to speaking the Queen's English, but I realize there are traces of a half-dozen other places mixed in, which are the bits I would call an accent. I've gone a bit Americanized over the years, with hints of New York, Ireland, South Africa, and I'm not entirely certain what else. I have traveled widely.

3. Do you hope to be married (married again if divorced)?
Again, in my case, and yes. I should hope to be far more successful this time.

4. If you could take one technology to a desert island (the obvious satellite phone excluded), what would it be?
I'm very fond of those little MP3 Players these days. If I could bring something non-technological, it would certainly be my current family.

5. What is the last activity you bought a ticket for?
Collectively, the Nutcracker ballet, and before that there were the plane tickets. Personally, I couldn't say. I tend to convince others to buy tickets...
shadowtricker: (Desperate for time)
Oh dear, yes, and I've a mind like a sieve. I truly did mean to post this before now.

Reply to this and I will...
1)Tell you why I friended you.
2)Associate you with a song. I dislike movies, and cannot associate people with them on command.
3)Tell a random fact about you.
4)Tell my first memory of you.
5)Associate you with an animal.
6)Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7)Does anyone remember chain letters? Do those still circulate? I do not feel the need to force any meme to perpetuate, as they tend to be perfectly capable of it regardless. I ask that you post this in your own journal if you're interested in giving the answers.

This post has been edited.
shadowtricker: (words)
I'm posting this now, although I may take some time to get to the actual writing. I'm happy to collect prompts, and I'll put up replies when I've got the keyboard properly, this evening or tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.

Give me some lyrics (Just a few lines, please. A stanza if you must) and I will write you a small thing about one of YOUR characters and one of MY characters. Even if they have never met ever.
shadowtricker: (heart of pages)
Well, that's quite interesting.

You're The Fellowship of the Ring!

by J.R.R. Tolkien

Facing great adversity, you have decided that your only choice is to
unite with your friends and neighbors. You have been subject to a ton of squabbling and
ultimately decided that someone humble is your best candidate for a dangerous mission.
You're quite good with languages and convinced that not all who wander are lost. If you
see anyone in black robes on horseback, just run. That's just common sense.

Since falling into a discussion on tags in the LT community, I've been more interested in using them. I just went back and tagged all my entries here, for something to do. Insomnia is a persistent disease...

Rey bothered me a while back to take a personality quiz she got through work, so I am hoping that taking this version will appease her.

Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal pseudo-canon.
My characters for online role-play are Thorn and his janitor alternate, Aloysius Crumrin, and Mad-Eye Moody.

I realize I'm a bit behind on my essay writing, but as Rey's got the puppet show to do tomorrow, I'm giving up keyboard time tonight. She did insist I take this quiz, although I'm not sure why.

I will get to writing again shortly, and eventually there will be art book pictures. It's turned out to be a more time-consuming process than I had originally imagined, but fascinating and enjoyable despite my impatience.
In other news, I'm finding myself somewhat distressed over the Middle Area High roleplay community. My last three posts have gune utterly unanswered, while all the posts around mine recieve replies. People seem fairly willing to interact when I reply to their posts, so I'm really not certain what the trouble is. I'm aware that the janitor version of Thorn can be slightly difficult to interact with, but I've tried to make my posts as open and approachable as possible. I'm not sure whether posting in the OOC board or writing to the mods is my best course of action to puzzle this out. I'm open to advice.

I suppose I'm meant to take part in this as well, so you may post here to have me ask you five questions.
